FANDOM: Lord of the Rings

PROMPT: 038. Threesome.
RATING: PG for thematic darkness
WORD COUNT: 344
SUMMARY: Arwen muses on the trio of conspirators surrounding Frodo.
WARNINGS: Rating for mild thematic darkness only. Yes, this is movieverse. I figured the canon purists were already running screaming in circles anyhow. ;) Might as well make their heads really explode. ;D Additionally, this series is likely to be heavy on the food imagery in places - I *am* writing about a hobbit, after all. So please bear with me!
NOTES: Part of the series of Frodo/Arwen ficlets for Lover100. "Ami" and "Ada" are basically "Mummy" and "Daddy" or something like it in Sindarin - the formal "mother" and "father" are "naneth" and "adar," I believe. Some Sindarin experts feel free to correct me if I'm wrong; I'm no great expert in Elvish. ;P
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Tolkien's characters; I just like to play with them from time to time. I make no claim of ownership on his creations. Any and all treatments used in this series are purely for fictitious purposes and not to be attempted on humans (having been designed for fictitious hobbits instead). Please consult a qualified health care professional for all your medical needs.
The other three hobbits astonish me with their devotion to their kinsman and master. They will hardly leave his side unless forced away by Ada, Mithrandir, Estel, or myself, and then only reluctantly, to sleep or eat for a time. Then they return eager for news of Frodo, crestfallen to learn that still he has not woken, not understanding that this may be a mercy in itself, for Ada still works to remove the fragment of blade. I doubt that the little one could bear the pain were he awake.
It seems they have a small conspiracy of sorts. . .a conspiracy never to all leave at once, for if one goes, or two, the other will remain, even if it be only in a chair at the far side of the room while Ada works. A threesome of conspirators we cannot contend with, and so we choose to work with rather than against them, making suggestions as to who might go and whom stay - Samwise is staunch enough to endure even the most gruesome of Ada's procedures, while Pippin, valiant heart that he has, still blanches at the sight of the blood and foul matter that oozes from the wound. It is Pippin we encourage to talk cheerfully to Frodo, to try and call him back brightly and encourage him with such small talk as their folk are accustomed to. Merry we call upon for staunch support in almost any matter, whether it be assistance in supporting and calming Frodo while we change his bandages, carrying news to the others, or simply sitting with his cousin.
Sam, though, can be entrusted to hold his master's hand through the darkest moments - the painful episodes when Ada tries to remove the fragment of the hateful blade, and then his spirit shines forth, for he does not quail, but shushes Frodo and soothes him with all the skill of any mother with her babe.
A trio of conspirators, indeed.
I think this is the sort of conspiracy with which we of Imladris can live.
