Inspired by this Shirebunny:
M27. Movie-bunny: Pippin takes one or more of his fellow hobbits to the place where he believed he and Gandalf were about to die (as Gandalf told him about "the far green country"). What do the hobbits talk about there? Has Pippin found a new serenity and maturity because of that experience? Does anyone then seek out Gandalf to hear more about this "far green country"?
WARNING: This is not a deathfic; HOWEVER, it contains discussion of major canon character death, and I don't just mean referencing the moments when Pippin thinks he and Gandalf are done for. I'm talking about something more than that. So if the very discussion of character death that will happen in the future upsets you, DO *NOT* click on the lj-cut and read this fic. I have hereby given The Warning. Sorry, but this is just the direction it insisted on going!!!!
If mention of death but not actually having to witness it doesn't bother you, then you might be fine, because you don't have to witness it.
At any rate, good luck choosing whether to read on. . . .
"It's quiet."
"Yes. Yes, it is." Gandalf took a seat along the wall, watching closely as the Ringbearer paced before the great doors, looking up to lay his tiny hand against their bulk.
"And very peaceful. How strange."
The wizard drew a deep breath. "Frodo. . .why did you ask me to bring you here?"
Frodo said nothing, but paced back, looking up to meet Gandalf's eyes with hesitation. "Pippin brought me here the other day. He - told me what happened here."
"What did he say to you?" gentled Gandalf, leaning forward.
The little hobbit shifted uneasily from one foot to the other. "He - he said that he believed you were both going to die, and that you spoke of it to him. You said that death was just another path we all must take. . .and that you spoke of. . .of a far green country, under a swift sunrise." Blue eyes caught Gandalf's earnestly. "Would you tell me of it?"
Gandalf caught the small hands in his. "Frodo. . .what troubles you?"
A shadow passed over Frodo's face, and he looked away. "You know my time is not long. Not now."
"No." Gandalf's voice was soft. "Not unless you accept the gift that the Queen has offered to you and take ship into the West."
Frodo shook his head, smiling sadly. "My task is done. The greatest peace I can imagine is rest. Aragorn promises that I shall not be uncomfortable if I stay here with them, and. . .I will stay." He pulled closed. "But tell me of it. . .of that far green country. Please. I want to know. I expect I shall see it soon enough, but I should like very much to know what to expect."
"Of course, my friend." Motioning for Frodo to sit, Gandalf put an arm around him, encircling him like a protective wing. "Of course. I will tell you everything."

Date: 2008-03-16 12:16 am (UTC)Poor Frodo, but I do understand his reasonings. W/my health issues, I understand them far too well. If anything, my getting into Tolkien's World has helped to...cememt I guess is only word I can think of, beliefs I already had.
Thanks for all three of the Bunnies!!
