Here's the next ficlet in the Frodo Fanfic100 series. Enjoy!

Title: Home
Fandom: J.R.R. Tolkien
Characters: Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Rosie Cotton
Prompt: 001. Beginnings.
Word Count: 175
Rating: PG for mild thematic darkness
Summary: While waiting for newlyweds Sam and Rosie to arrive at Bag End, Frodo worries.
Author's Notes: These ficlets are set within my Silence AU, in which Frodo never sailed West, but instead continued to live in the Shire with Sam, Rosie, and their growing family. Not a perfect happily-ever-after, thanks to Frodo's continued ill health, but still a warm AU. Warning: I am a foodie writing about hobbits, so some of my ficlets are heavy on the food and/or drink imagery. Consider your notice served!

Frodo hesitated nervously, and tried to open a book, but reading was useless. He could not keep himself from listening for Sam and Rosie to come in, half-afraid the sound would never come.

They'll change their minds, he told himself, and go up to the Cotton place to stay until they can prepare a home. What a fool I was for even asking! Move in here, indeed! They'll run the other direction the moment they have time to sit and think on it!

Bag End would always be hollow and empty. There was no chance of anything better - he had been a fool to hold out hopes of something more. Had his dreams of Sam and his wife and their children been only that - dreams?

Indeed, whispered the shadows. Only dreams, and nothing more. All your dreams are lost now.

But soon enough he heard the sound of a key in the lock, and the click of it turning. . .and a sweet, familiar voice called out to him.

"Mr. Frodo? We're home."

-the end-

Sweet, sweet relief at the end. Even though I *knew* Sam and Rosie would come, you had me feeling and believing Frodo's fears here, too.

Poor Frodo! The darkness still whispering to him, even after the Ring was destroyed. But this is wonderful!

Frodo's worries seem very real, and it's so sad to think of Bag End empty and echoing, with just Frodo drifting through it like a ghost. The ending was so sweet, and such a comfort.

The sound of loved-ones returning home is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. This is lovely.

Oh my. Frodo's in a bad place. Thank goodness Sam and Rosie are there for him.

Of course Sam will come! He'll not leave Mr. Frodo alone to face his demons, as he didn't leave me to face the dread of Mordo alone.

Love this story, especialy the end where Sam comes once more to banish the demons that haunt Frodo still. 'We're home.' Indeed.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
