SUMMARY: Arwen has a disconcerting dream in which she sees Frodo for the first time.
WARNINGS: Rating for mild thematic darkness only. Yes, this is movieverse. I figured the canon purists were already running screaming in circles anyhow. ;) Might as well make their heads really explode. ;D Additionally, this series is likely to be heavy on the food imagery in places - I *am* writing about a hobbit, after all. So please bear with me!
NOTES: First in the series of Frodo/Arwen ficlets for Lover100. This is likely to be the only one of the series to be written in past tense, just because that's the way it's working out in my head. Hope that doesn't mess with anyone's mind too badly.

Riding.
She was riding, riding faster than she ever had in all her long years upon the earth, galloping madly toward the Bruinen.
And yet she was not alone: her arms encircled a small figure, hardly larger than an elf-child, wrapped warmly in a diminutive cloak. But still he shivered, and she could sense the clamminess of fever even through his warm clothing. He was burning and frozen at the same time, as if. . .
. . .as if a poisoned icicle had bitten him.
Ami. . .Ami, is this what it was like for you?
She felt the pull of an icy wind close behind her, and spurred her horse onward, but the cold closed in about her, threatening to cut her off. . . .
"No!"
Arwen awoke with a jerk, sitting up in bed, startling herself with her own cry. Embarrassed, she rose, pulling on her dressing-gown, still trembling. Only a moment later there came a tap at her door.
"Arwen? Are you all right?"
She crossed to the door and opened it. "Yes, Ada. But I think we had better not continue to wait for Estel and the hobbits."
His eyes dimmed. "What is it?"
She shook her head. "I must go. Give me your blessing, Ada, and I will be on my way within the hour."
He kissed her brow. "Go in peace. May you find them swiftly."

Date: 2009-05-15 06:08 pm (UTC)I always forget that her mother experienced much the same wounding as Frodo - it makes perfect sense that Arwen would have nightmares about her mother's pain, and thus be able to anticipate Frodo's need as well.
