febobe: (ArwenFrodo)

Subject Line: Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins/Arwen Undomiel, Table A., 037. Hurt
TITLE: Pain
AUTHOR: Febobe (Frodo Baggins of Bag End - FBoBE - "Febobe")
FANDOM: Lord of the Rings
PAIRING: Frodo Baggins/Arwen Undomiel
GENRE: Friendship -> light het
TABLE:
PROMPT: 037. Hurt.
RATING: PG for thematic darkness
WORD COUNT: 170
SUMMARY: Arwen's encounter with Frodo is darkened by her understanding of what has been done.
WARNINGS: Rating for mild thematic darkness only. Yes, this is movieverse. I figured the canon purists were already running screaming in circles anyhow. ;) Might as well make their heads really explode. ;D Additionally, this series is likely to be heavy on the food imagery in places - I *am* writing about a hobbit, after all. So please bear with me!
NOTES: Third in the series of Frodo/Arwen ficlets for Lover100.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Tolkien's characters; I just like to play with them from time to time. I make no claim of ownership on his creations. Any and all treatments used in this series are purely for fictitious purposes and not to be attempted on humans (having been designed for fictitious hobbits instead). He is badly hurt; the wound is grave, and more than once I wish that my father were here, with his ready hands and skilled manner and gift for healing the sick and injured. But it is I who am here, and no one else, and so I must do what I can to ease him. Bending over the small figure again, I smile as best I can for him.

"Frodo?"

His breath hitches, but he looks up at me through eyes clouded by pain and fear. I stroke his forehead.

"I will take you to safety. My father will know what to do, if indeed anyone in Middle-earth can help. And I will look after you."

Small fingers close gratefully around my hand, and my own breath catches.

If only I were gifted with the power to unmake the Nine, I would hunt them down, to the ends of the earth, and kill them all, such death as they could be dealt, for the sake of this little one.

SUMMARY: On the road to Imladris, Arwen tries vainly to comfort Frodo, but her efforts are of little avail.

NOTES: Part of the series of Frodo/Arwen ficlets for Lover100. "Ami" and "Ada" are basically "Mummy" and "Daddy" or something like it in Sindarin - the formal "mother" and "father" are "naneth" and "adar," I believe. Some Sindarin experts feel free to correct me if I'm wrong; I'm no great expert in Elvish. ;P

He is so cold, and I can do no better than to hold him close; there is no time to stop and make a fire and a hot drink, to try bathing his wound properly with crushed athelas leaves, or to cradle him in my arms till the shivering stops. I try to be as gentle as I can, but each bump and jolt of the road, gentle as Asfaloth is, causes the small hobbit to whimper or moan with pain, though he is quiet otherwise, leaning weak and limp against my warmth.

And I think of Ami, crying out as Ada touched her, and Ada's face when he turned away, though he did not let her see.

Ada will understand.

Ada, of all people in Middle-earth, will understand.

What seems strange, though, is that my fears stray not most often to Estel, left behind on foot with the other hobbits. . .but the little one who rides with me, and what might become of him once his errand is fulfilled.

For it will not, I sadly deem, be a quest which ends at the doors of Imladris.

She is so empathetic, and caring of Frodo, surely her care will soothe him as much as anyone else could.

The connection you're making with her witnessing what Celebrian went through to her care for Frodo is really rich. I like fierce Arwen, harkening back to more than her foremother's looks.
