FICLET: "A Surfeit of Mushrooms" by Febobe (PG)

The plot bunny I mentioned yesterday, hopping into full bunny-dom. :) (For those not on my flock, basically - in post-Quest Minas Tirith, poor Frodo overindulges in fried mushrooms and pays a heavy price!) PG for mild medical graphic stuff only. Shouldn't squick anyone too badly. :) As usual, no sex, slash, or profanity.



"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh."

"Now, Frodo, I assure you that this will pass. It will require time, but it will pass."

"How much time?" Frodo looked up at Elrond plaintively, desperation in his gaze.

"I cannot say with certainty how long. It depends upon how your body responds." Elrond removed the now-full chamber-vessel and replaced it with a fresh one, rubbing soothing circles on Frodo's back as the little hobbit began to retch and vomit afresh. "Overindulgence, however, usually resolves within a day, provided proper rest is taken, and no further insult to the stomach given."

"As if I could eat anything else right now." Frodo groaned. "I *love* fried mushrooms; they *always* sit well with me. . .how could this happen?"

Elrond offered a cup of water for the Ringbearer. "Rinse and spit, Frodo. When one has been long unaccustomed to rich food, as you have, it is often difficult to return to a normal diet. Your body requires time to reacclimate itself."

Frodo obeyed, wrinkling his nose. "How do I get it to do that?"

"A more gradual easing into your customary diet. I can arrange for suitable food to be provided for you. We will begin with simple foods, such as light broths and plain toast, and advance your nourishment from there."

"No mushrooms." Frodo shook his head, looking pale.

"No, no mushrooms." Elrond wiped Frodo's face gently with a damp cloth. "I think that it will be a very long time before you wish to see another mushroom."

There's something about that image that really makes my FH heart go bouncy-bounce. It's wonderful to think ahead to when Frodo has recovered enough to enjoy his fried mushrooms again. :)

Poor Frodo! Overeating is the worst. I just wanted to cuddle him up well! I would love it if you did an overeating story with Arwen looking after him, too . . . I love your Frodo/Arwen; it makes my hurt/comfort heart just sing :) And all I learned about writing medical hurt/comfort stories, I learned from you - you're the best!

overeating fried foods is the worst! I can only have that kind of thing in small doses so I know just how Frodo feels right now! :D

Aww...poor Frodo! Perhaps he shouldn't have just jumped in with having fried. I'm sure that having them stuffed and baked, or maybe in a nice creamy soup would have been much better for his poor tummy!

But then of course, he would not have had all that nice comfort...
